How much money should I expect to pay during a divorce?

I've decided to file for divorce under the grounds of mental cruelty. I don't want to fight tooth and nail, and my ex only wants limited contact with our child. I'm looking for a ball park figure so that I can prepare.

When I filed for divorced, I had to pay my attorney $1500.00 up front. He held that as payment for whatever they do. He said that would take care of most of it. And it did. The only thing I had to pay other than that was the mediator (person who tells the judge who, what, when and why) which was $150.00. 6 months later I was divorced. Most attorneys will let you pay as you go. Check into it. Good Luck.

Reply:My divorce lasted 3 years (I didn't fight, he did). Cost me in the range of $2,500.00 for my divorce for the 3 years in and out of court. Again, my costs were higher b/c my ex fought over everything (including who got the pots and pans). Would have cost me around $1500 - 2000 if not for all the fighting.
Reply:800 to 5000 depending how your fighting goes. The longer you fight over stuff the more it will cost





Figure on 3 grand and maybe you will have something left over.
