Why don't people learn history before partisan attacks?

People say that conservatives (ie:republicans) were pro-slavery. In fact, it was the republican party who fought against slavery, and championed abolitionism. The democratic party, however, fought abolition tooth and nail.

People think that liberals are the ones who brought us civil rights. In fact, conservatives did. It was the republican party who championed them, with most prominent southern democrats vowing to fight until the end to keep the black man down. (ie, senator Robert "KKK" Byrd.)

Why is it that people fail to study their basic history, and accuse an entire group of people for the actions of one nefarious man? (yes, GWB, the Evil One) Especially when 90% of conservatives denounce him? I mean, sure the argument could be made that republicans put him in office, but a lot of democrats couldn't stand al gore, and were fooled along with the rest of us. It doesn't mean that we stand for his idiocy now that it's been revealed.

Why don't people make any effort to study history and become informed, instead of random mud throwing?

Why don't people learn history before partisan attacks?
Study requires effort. Echoing or parroting does not.

I believe it was Joesph Stalin that said if you shout a lie loud enough and long enough it BECOMES the truth.
Reply:This is now a bi-partisan democracy here in America

No matter WHAT the case, there will always be a heavy generalization against the other party...even if it's 100% wrong
Reply:I think it is you who needs to learn some history.

The Party of Licoln was dominated by northeastern liberals / radicals from states like Massachuetts.

Today's Republican Party is dominated by southern conservatives from states like Mississippi.

In the past, it was the southern conservative branch of the Democratic Party that was for "state-rights".

Today, it's the Republican Party that is for "state-rights", the confederate flag, and "southern heritage."

Liberals started leaving the Republican Party and conservatives leaving the Democratic Party with the election of 1964. Ever since then, the yankee northeast has become more Democrat and the confederate South more Republican.

Figure out what happened in 64.

Reply:Both parties have pretty mush done a 180 in their beliefs...........If you studied some history before asking this question, you would have already known the answer!! Most people know and believe this to be true.
Reply:Libs give credence to supposed philosophies and theories and ignore all facts.

Speaking of facts, Bush's ratings are bouncing between 31-38% this month and averaging about 34% w/ an average of 6% undecided.

Not too bad for a sitting president during war time.
