Do you think the NRA is just plain wrong in some of their policies?

They have fought against every act of congress to make firearms safer. They fought against trigger locks, they fought against better serial number protection, against the assault weapons ban, against handgun background checks, against closing the gun show loophole.

Aren't some of these stances at best negligent, at worse criminally irresponsible to what we know about firearms saftey and preventing violent crime? Shouldn't the NRA get propose Gun control legislation that we all can live with, instead of fighting tooth and nail against even something as harmless as trigger locks and background checks?

Do you think the NRA is just plain wrong in some of their policies?
The NRA has taken the extreme position on guns, which inevitably renders them ridiculous.
Reply:Guns don't kill, people kill. Gun laws have no bearing on criminals. If it did thugs wouldn't have guns.
Reply:I believe people should be able to buy as many guns they can afford. But background checks are a must.
Reply:Anti-gunnies have no clue..
Reply:Nope not at all!!! NRA member and I thank God that they are working for me!!!
Reply:I'm just fighting to live in a free country. Looks like I am going to lose what few rights I have left that's all going to be history before long!
Reply:Gun control only ensures that the intended victims are unarmed. What makes you think that the people who will commit crimes would actually follow those laws?
Reply:Sorry - I'm one of those "pry it from my cold, dead hands" types.

Using this logic, shouldn't cars be banned? After all, look how many people die on our highways every year...and why is that different?
Reply:The NRA is fighting against everything because they believe in the "slippery slope", e.g. when you give something up, where do you stop? Before criticizing this mentality, the ACLU does it as well, supporting even the most extreme cases that no reasonable person could understand.

The reason this (and other) orgs take this action is it is easier to apply a black %26amp; white mentality, rather than making a decision on each and every case %26amp; it's merits.
Reply:Regardless of the NRA stance, some of these policies are now law....
Reply:This is the most repetitive answer to date, all I have to do is cut and paste from the last question:

Cut and Paste:

As I have posted elsewhere, the crack head still gets his crack, the heroin addict still gets needles, the pot head still gets his weed, the meth addict still get his hit. These are all criminal acts punishable under our laws but for some strange reason the criminal is still able to get an illegal substance, laws mean nothing to the lawless.
Reply:Yes.
Reply:No
Reply:That is how the NRA members feel about people who think like you. You have no clue why the bill of rights exists. Nor do you know what kind of politics brought it into being. The MA state legislature told the head of their representatives to the first US Congress to see that the amendments that became the Bill of Rights were passed and to see that no other business was carried out until they were acted upon. "You are to use any legal means to achieve these goals. Remember dueling is legal" Is a direct quote of part of that charge. Get an education about what you wish to tinker with before you make charges that are slanderous in nature.
Reply:I think their dues are a little high... does that count?
Reply:It is a statistical fact that other countries have reduced homicides significantly, by outlawing guns. I am not so sure that we should outlaw guns, it is a part of our heritage, which has a rich history. The gun is emblematic of self defense and freedom as we have earned it. From the days of colonies to that of a nation. What I do not understand is that the NRA opposes the banning of assault weapons. Perhaps the time has come to debate the access of assault weapons that are manufactured and designed to kill specifically, people. I am sure, their are some to say that guns don't kill, people do; but I might add 1 bullet will suffice over a clip or magazine of an AK47.
Reply:No!!!!! The NRA are freedom fighters...They look after the right to bare arms. Down the road is a police state just waiting for you individuals who toss in your rights...God help America.... Fear Fear Fear Loss Loss Loss Stupid....
Reply:simply put: YES
Reply:no.

They did not fight against the development of trigger locks, only laws that would make them mandatory. Such laws are stupid and endanger people from being able to quickly defend themselves.

Serial numbering endangers gun owners from tyranny. Once you have every gun cataloged, the government can easily take away our freedom and impose tyranny.

The assault weapons ban was based on looks of the weapon and not actual funtion. The legislation did nothing more than eliminate some guns, but leave others available. Long arms are rarely used in criminal enterprise, yet this bill targeted long arms.

Handgun background checks are inadequate. real criminals will always be able to get guns from, you guessed it, other criminals.

Describe this so called gun show loop-hole. So you mean that private enterprise and burdens must be passed onto the individual, instead of the government doing its job? The loophole law, so called, requires individuals to be police and narcs, keep accurate records, and should they fail, to serve jail. It is once again the government leaning on private enterprise to destroy economic freedom.

I agree with each and every one of the NRA's stance on these. Their arguements are better than mine, and I encourage you to read them before you judge them.
