There might be a hole in your tooth
Reply:Tooth decay caused by lingering food particles and / or plaque.

You probably need a filling.

But check with a dentist.
Reply:If you mean "biting edge" of a front tooth, the dark line is likely "dentin" exposure.

This means you have worn the enamel off of the biting edge of your tooth exposing the dentin which is a softer and darker layer of tooth structure that surrounds the pulp.

Because the dentin is softer, is wears easily and it stains easily.

See your dentist to determine WHY the tooth is wearing. Common causes are:

- clenching and grinding your teeth, especially during sleep

- tooth out of alignment

- tooth hyper-erupted (longer than the adjacent teeth)

- tooth bites down on a porcelain crown on the opposing arch

- biting on foreign objects like pens

Depending on the extent of your wear, treatment can include:

- Bonding with resin

- Porcelain veneer

- Porcelain crown

- Bruxism appliance

- Braces

- Avoiding biting on foreign objects like pens
