Chipped front tooth?

A while ago I chipped one of my front teeth when I hit it with a glass. It's a tiny chip, not even visible and the only way I know is that I can feel it when I run my fingernail across the top of it---my nail can feel the 'dent'. It was almost like a tiny piece 'flaked' off. It doesn't hurt at all, and I'm a giant coward when it comes to dentists. How would they treat this? Would they just file it to make it even? I'm more worried about the rest of the tooth starting to chip than anything. The top edge of the tooth is a little 'thinner' where this happened.

Chipped front tooth?
They will grind it smooth, no shots involved. You probably have a rough surface there now which is prone to cavities. If the chip is too big, they will use a bonding agent and cure it with ultraviolet light, again not painful.
Reply:they will probably give you a veneer, but im no expert. im terrified of dentists as well, but if they did give you a veneer the tooth would just be filed down a little and a veneer placed over it. i had a chip on my front tooth and got a veneer and its fine now. you should go to the dentist cos this isnt a big thing to have done and if you leave it it could get alot worse and you could end up needing a lot more work doing. dont worry about it :]
Reply:suck it up and go to the dentist unless u want it to come out
Reply:they file it down n fix it at the dentist
Reply:They'd probably just file it down more to make it even.
Reply:Yea they put a filling on it (I forget the medical term for this). Anyway, it doesn't hurt ONE bit. My front tooth is half chipped, and I have it refilled every year or two (it keeps falling out...) Anyway, it doensn't hurt a bit.
Reply:I think they would just put in some stuff where the chip is and it will deteriorate so you get used to it not being there.
Reply:I chipped one of my front teeth when I was young, but mine is much worse than yours. I don't like dentists either, but whenever I go it's a pretty easy procedure. I never have been numbed for it either. For me they make a resin composite to attach to my tooth, making it look like one tooth that isn't cracked. They could probably fill yours in with sealance or something. It shouldn't take too long and most likely won't hurt you at all.
Reply:i have something similar, but it is the bottom of my front tooth, i wouldn't worry a/b it. after eating and brushing for awhile, it will probably take care of itself. but, yea...the dentist would probably just "sand" it down.
Reply:unless its hurting you or really obvious they prob wont do anything just yet but i think when the time is right they will give you a veneer. dentist is nothing to worry about too - just remember - they have carried out these standard procedures millions of times - RELAX!
Reply:you don't have to worry the dentist would just fill it in. And it won't hurt.
Reply:Don't worry so much - if it's a small chip, they will just file it to smooth it out. :) No pain, nothing but a nice smooth tooth to leave with - all in just a few minutes! :)
Reply:Yes, the dentist will have to file the chipped area to make it smooth again. There is no other alternative. Make sure to ask the dentist not to over do it to damage too deep of that tooth.
Reply:ive got a chip exactly the same and ive jus left it and nothing has happened, and i did it the same way as u (well on a glass bottle). i think it will only crack the rest of it if it is really bad. my cousin chiped loads off his front teeth and they jus put summit on it where it was chiped to stop it chippin more and thats it. bit like using clear nail polish to stop tights from ladderin more.
Reply:I understand your problem because I had both my front teeth chipped in a car accident.

Best thing to do is find a good dentist that does bonding work on teeth. Bonding is painless, doesn't take too much time and and you or anyone else won't ever know you had it.

I did it and was glad I did!
Reply:There's probably a couple ways they could attack it, but the easiest way is just simply grinding on it to make it smooth. The worst part of the grinding is just the sound of the drill (makes my skin crawl just thinking about it myself) but if the tooth is otherwise healthy and in good shape it's best to just smooth it out and make sure it doesn't catch on anything else in your mouth like the back of your lip. I don't think that putting a porcelain filling in it would make any sense, unless it was really noticeable.
Reply:MY dads a dentist...Well first it might take a while..i've chipped a few teeth myself. But you would have to go to a dentist to get a temporary; a temporary is a fake tooth to place where the real tooth is missing. Well ther'd b a mould of the chpped off part. Then they'd fill in the mould make an impression...n yeah...i think thats right...dads out of town...But if you don't mind and ladies or friends can't notice it. Dont worry about it for now...But if it gets worse...i'd call your dentist. DONT FORGET TO BRUSH that area though.
Reply:they will file it down. i had it done not long ago its not that bad.
Reply:i had my front tooth chipped too. i went to the dentist and they just put a filling in it, the only that hurts is just the shot to numb u..i promise u, u wont feel a thing after..good luck
