When will I be proud to be a democrat?
I've fought tooth and nail about my left-wing views. I'm sick of it! I want to stand tall for my liberatarian outlook! I want to stick bumper stickers on my car that market my politics with intelligence humor, but aren't vulgar or defensive, I want to read books that aren't whiney, I want to pay my taxes with a sense of both community and gain, and I want to feel free to drive by the panhandler.
Is it too much to ask that we require more from the wealthy to improve the improverished? We are one country, and we're looking really sad lately. I'm sick of false patriotism, false faith, false humanity.
Plant a freaking tree. If you have the means, plant 10. Donate when you're able, and if you aren't able, remember to do it when you are. Vote against tax hikes when you don't know where your taxes are going! Smile at kids on the street and strike up conversations with seniors. Listen to music you aren't used to. Feel free to wear polka dots with stripes.
Listen for change and vote.
When will I be proud to be a democrat?
Are you asking when you will be as unencumbered by self doubt as Bushie, Rummy, and Cheney?
That type of pompous conceit is reserved for people without conscience and without curiosity.
Reply:Polka dots with stripes? And you want us to take you seriously???

Actually Yes. Thats not how capitalism was designed, your think socialism and if thats the case, you need to go to Europe.
Reply:Then drop the loser party and vote your with your mind and not for a party that has lost its way.

I do agree on the small government part and personal responsibility, but other than that... well good luck with that.

It's not much to ask that "we require more from the wealthy to improve the" impoverished, but minimum wage requirements aren't the way to go. This doesn't help anyone above minimum wage and some of those whom its intended to help lose their jobs instead. Then Chinese workers get more business with their slave labor while our poor go deeper into debt.
Reply:it is unfortunately you can't be proud to be democrat, usually they young and dumb, when they grow up mentally they change the party, like Ronald Reagen he was a democrat, and than he became republican, and he was the best president of all the times,so it is not to late for you to change, you are going to the right direction.good luck to you and maybe one day you will be a president, and i would vote for you.
Reply:That is a question only you can answer.
The taxes that the wealthy pay will very likely go to pork projects before it sees its way to the impoverished. Why do you think writing checks is the answer anyway and why do the wealthier among us have to foot the bill for more wasteful government spending? The top 1% already pay 37% of federal income taxes. Enough with the class envy. After all, the money people earn is their property.
Regarding the fight against poverty, the so-called "great society " of Lyndon Johnson was a huge failure and created an enormous dependency that we are only weaning ourselves from (to a small extent) in recent years. Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish (with a little effort on the part of the individual) and you feed him for a lifetime.
Funny how many of the people I see in the U.S. who are considered below the poverty line own cell phones, Ipods, expensive sneakers, televisions, cable, etc. My, how the definition of poor has changed over the years. What a sham the statistics have proven to be.
I donate to worthy causes, but I will be damned if I get shaken down by politicians in Congress who have an insatiable appetite for my tax money.
People need to be well-informed before they can vote responsibly. Amazing how so few take that to heart.

Reply:When is the last time a democrat has ever ASKED the wealthy to improve the impoverished? They command the wealthy to pay taxes, and they throw everyone making more than minimum wage into the wealthy category.
Why is it that one person can donate a hundred dollars, but if a wealthy person donates the exact same amount, he's a bad person and deserves your wrath?
Stop telling people what to do, stop spending other people's money, stop trying to control everthing with laws and government.

Why do the Republican's have a rule to step down for any impropriety, but Dems...?
don't follow this ethical example ?? Dems fight tooth and nail to stay in office no matter the evidence. Before you say "Bull...", look at William Jefferson, Dem, La. as a recent example. If the Israelis wanted to fight Hezbollah and avoid killing civilians, why did they pull out of Bint Jbail?
They were fighting actual Hezbollah militiamen tooth and nail in Bint Jbail. Why not stay to kick some ***?
If the Israelis wanted to fight Hezbollah and avoid killing civilians, why did they pull out of Bint Jbail?
From the bits and pieces being reported, it seems that the situation in Bint Jbail wasn't as the Israeli's expected. Rather than ratchet the violence up yet again, they opted to withdraw from the area to prevent even more losses - both civilian and their own.
Of course, by withdrawing, it also allows for more airstrikes without the worry of hitting their own forces.
The fighting isn't over, and I fear it won't be for quite some time, but for now it was at least a somewhat responsible reaction to a rapidly-degenerating situation.

As long as Hezbollah keeps hiding themselves and their weapons/rocket launchers in Mosques and day care centers, the blood of every innocent person killed will be on Hezbollah's hands.

How does Christianity rate?
It's history is filled with wars and bloodshed, ignorance and superstition.
It openly endorsed and encouraged slavery and servitude, while fighting reform and science tooth and nail.
It's modern practitioners, somewhat neutered by secularism, have tried to become a kinder gentler church and pretend they were that way all along, mostly for PR reasons.
Women's rights and women's suffrage are the result of female Atheists like Susan B Anthony and Gloria Steinem. Reproductive rights, likewise, and how many Christian women use the 'rhythm method' or refuse to vote?
"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."
James Madison, Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments, addressed to the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia, 1795

Reply:I agree with you 100%. However, Islam is much worse. Islam is total intolerance for every thing else. If Islam took over the human race would never recover and fall into a never ending Dark Age.
Reply:True, true, true. And of course all you need to do is point out these facts, and then sit back and watch as Christianity crumbles.
Seriously though, I've never seen a Christian disturbed in the least by the history of his own religion. If he disagrees with, oh, I don't know, the Inquisition, it's easy for him to say "But those people weren't really following Jesus." Never mind that "those people" would've said the same thing of him, and would probably have burned him for it! And, of course, there's no ultimate means of deciding who's really got it right, since "faith" is never based on such vulgar and demonstrable things as facts. On the theory of the Inquisition, their burning of "heretics" was the execution of God's Will; and they had just as much proof as anybody!
This is what has led some particularly idiotic imbeciles to "literalism" - "I'm all right as long as I do exactly what the Bible says, no more and no less." The fact of the impossibility of "literal adherence" to a collection of wildly contradictory texts never strikes them, because they are as a rule congenitally incapable of intelligent criticism. But they DO at least loosely understand the conflict between the Bible and legitimate history and science - hence their massive campaigns of disinformation to hobble the progress of the latter. Christians have always been book-burners. "Young Earth" is only the new "Geocentric Theory."
On a personal level, I'm absolutely content to leave them to their ignorance and the rotten fruits thereof. On a social level, there is really no means too extreme to prevent them from further inflicting their insanities on secular society.
Reply:All extremely good points. However, Christians have been either raised to believe their way is right, or they have found some weak moment in their life in which they thought religion was the only help available to them (ie: quitting smoking, death of someone, etc).
You are dealing with a culture that MUST convert and keep people in the church and will not let go, as it would be a loss of power and money.
They will only see your statements as the work of 'Satan' and not open their mind to any other truth, other than the words their church demands they obey!
It's a sad state, but we are fighting a losing battle!
Reply:1) Buddhism is a disciple level religion

3) Islam is an Individaul level religion (live for oneself)
- Kings of the past used Christianity to control the masses so they would pay more in taxes. Also, they pushed unyieldingly to convert everything in site becuase they wanted to bring as many colonies under their rule to control spice and trade routes. However, that was known as Christiendom.
I whole-heartedly agree that the only good religion is one you follow by yourself. While I believe the first two have valid points, only YOU are your own personally savior.
Reply:Religion rates pretty low in my book. The only ones that interest me are those without a central "church" structure. When I want to talk to God or the Gods, I don't need a church or a go between.
And the worst of them is the catholic church. The richest business in the world!
Reply:i would say, as a force for evil in the world, christianity's track record is spectacular and i would give them a ten star AAA rating!
Reply:Well said, Father Guido. I especially liked the James Madison quote. ...still true after 212 years.
Reply:All religious people aren't necessarily true Christians. You are naming only the horrible things done in the name of Christianity, and conveniently leaving out the tons of good things Christians have done through the ages, as well as the effect our faith had on people's thoughts and morals which is still visible in modern society. What would the world be without it, I wonder...
Also, the things you accuse Christians of are true of all groups consisting of human beings. Look into ANY country's history, and there will be enough to fill you with horror.
Reply:You're point about them distancing themselves from catholism is so true. IT IS the root of all chritianity, and the beginning of the curruption of the original ideals (which were already false). The catholics made sure the bible suited their political purposes, and now every two bit christian religion interprets this political document in their own way to suit their own agenda of controlling the masses for the sake of power and money.
It's rather sad that the christians can't see it.
Reply:On a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best and 1 the worst.
I'd rate it at 0.
Reply:Ironically, the answer is evolution (a term they love).
The purpose of the old religion was social control. Back in the day religion was a weapon of the state.
These days social consciousness has grown to were most people recognize that slavery is not okay, there's not reason not to wear mixed fabrics, and most women have no trepidation (if not interest) about voting. The old edicts of the church no longer suit; people cannot be controlled as easily as they once were (although that women being servile to men thing still won't go away entirely as the churches STILL try to control women and dictate family structure).
The only way people can stay in their faith these days is of course to take the different view of it. The human mind makes decisions first and rationalizes later - it's not unique to Christians. They will go through all kinds of contortions to make it okay to stay in their religion.
Christianity does have going for it the most insidious of methods - appearing to be something good while being something really vile. It's fear-based religion that masquerades as love-based; it's an egotistical religion masquerading as a humble one. Their deity is held as the best and purest and most loving of things, but an examination of course reveals it as a mass murdering, bigoted, uncompassionate being who won't take responsibility for its own creation.
But the fear of hell and rejection by something that will love us if we are only good enough are powerful motivators for many. Powerful enough that leaving this mindset can result in a major emotional crisis.
Reply:A relationship with Jesus rates higher than any date with Gloria or chat with the padre (Guido). History reveals Christians have been at the forefront of many past battles against injustice. See the history of slavery, early health care etc. Read the life of Jesus and see how he railed against the religious authorities, loved the poor and declared justice. See how His life speaks to you today! Then go and do likewise.
Christianity is about a relationship with the creator of the universe and not a love fest with the deeds of the church, many of which are deplorable. History is full of examples of people who represented a belief system and acted in a manner inconsistent with the systems ideals. This is not territory solely owned by Christians.
Happy reading.
Reply:Christianity was here before the RCC and all its inventions. Christianity began in the first century. Catholicism in the 4th century. Histoy proves this.
Salvation is a personal thing between a person and God. God commands all men everywhere to REPENT. He doesn't call us to serve in organizations, churches, assemblies, clicks, cults, etc. or to judge others.
God COMMANDS ALL MEN EVERYWHERE TO REPENT. Acts 17.30
It is an individual thing. When you stand before God (and you will) you will answer only for YOURSELF. It willnot matter what church or org you belonged to or if you didn't belong to one. It is YOU per se God commands to repent and he says to do it today.
It is YOU as an individual God will bring into either judgement or eternal peace.

(live for others + beyond)
2) Christianity is an Aspirant level religion
(democratic-thinking)
Reply:Christianity rates near the bottom of the heap, above only Islam.
How can I heal from being battered by my ex-BF? I'm having a really hard time.?
My ex-BF of 3 years abused me for the last two. He began with verbal and emotional abuse (calling me a stupid ***** and other horrible names) Then the physical abuse started. We would get into fistfights, because I fought him back tooth and nail. (How could I be stupid when he was sitting on his butt, watching TV, smoking weed, and popping lots of pills?) Let me be clear: I know that I chose this man and chose the consequences, but I didn't know he was such a pill junkie until we lived together. That was what probably contrubuted to the his violence and anger. I finally told him that I didn't want to live with him anymore. I just couldn't see myself going to school, working, taking care of the house AND babysitting him. Our relationship ended with me bruised and a bitten ear, and him with cuts on his head from me beating the **** out of him with a ceramic soap dish. Now that I've thrown him out, pressed charges, and all that, I am ashamed that I could let this happen to me for so long.

talk to someone, maybe a professional--- good luck with everything--- i am glad you are out of that relationship
Reply:this is what living with an addict is all about. Confusion, drama, violence, lopsided responsibilty. Please consider going to nar Anon meetings for a bit to understand how complicated these relationships can be and the toll it takes on friends and family.
Of course, you didn;t know at first, they are expert manipulative liars. You are nOT to blame.

Reply:I am always on Answers giving smart *** comments and generally being a douche, but for some reason, this seemed to hit me a bit. Don't for one second blame yourself for this. It may have taken a bit longer than it should have, but you DID throw him out and are now trying to do better for yourself. For now, don't worry or think about other relationships until you come to grips with accepting yourself and your own worth. Look after yourself and life will take care of the rest. I wish you luck!
Reply:They say love is blind, I am proud of you for fighting back and kicking his a** out when you did, at least you were not together for years and years like 10 or more. My aunt stayed with her's for 12 years and 3 kids later till he turned on the kids then she had-had enough and left but by that time she was so mentally, physically, and emotionally, beatten down, she let her babies go to her mom and sister.
Reply:You should be proud of yourself for having the courage to GET OUT of that abusive relationship. I also was in a abusive relationship. I didn't have the courage to leave or fight back. so for 16yrs. I was abused. After my daughter's death 7yrs, ago. I finally got the courage to go to a batter women's shelter.I have since grown as a person. I now speak to other women who are survivors of DV. I commend you for your honesty. But don't beat up on yourself! We all make mistake.........learning from them is the key. God bless you! May your future be filled with happiness.
Reply:Glad to know that you finally woke up!
Shake the dust from your feet and GO ON! Meaning, don't YOU LOOK BACK! It will do you absolutely NO GOOD to try to figure out what went wrong. It's over and that's that!
It's time to get back on track, with work , school and self! Give yourself a year from intimate relationships, so that you can accomplish some personal goals and truly heal emotionally!
Now look, I know your girls are going to want to rehash and to get you to tell all. IT WOULD BE LIKE RIPPING ONE OF YOUR CUTS BACK OPEN! When anyone tries to get you to talk about it, say no I don't want to remember what's dead to me. Sometimes certain things, people and events have to fade out of the memory.
Do you for right now, make a dent in your future. Hold your head high always, because YOU ARE A SURVIVOR!
MUCH LOVE!

This is emberassing, but I am about to take my son back from my sister.?
I had a drinking problem and recieved a P.I. and my son had to move into my sister's home while I attended an intensive outpatient program. After that, I recieved a D.W.I. and let him stay with her until I cleaned up my act. I am ready now, doing very well and very happy as a matter of fact (I actually love the 12 steps-they are life skills). I know she is going to fight me tooth and nail over this, legally. I will go to any lengths to keep my son and do whatever is necessary in order to do so. Who can help me prepare for this upcoming battle? I finally have the guts as he alwyas comes over crying and saying how awful it is there (she's very demeaning and controlling and argues non-stop), but it is nothing that would carry any weight. She used to cocaine and dated a dealer, etc. She put this in her pass and is very successful now and I respect that, but I will never be "good" in her eyes. Nobody is. Please don't think I just want to play mom out of the blue.

I would suggest getting a letter to the judge or whomever from your 12 steps leader or if you took a chemical dependancy class, get a letter saying that you have improved. Take a drug test and pass, keep the evidence. It isn't your sister's right to keep YOUR child.
The court should respect that. Ask the court to ask your son what it's like living with her. Get a very, very good lawyer.
Good luck and God Bless.
Reply:well my best advice would be to get , a letter from the judge giving the right to see your son and hang around with him, this will certainly help out because at the end your son could be a witness that you have resisted the urge to binge drinking and now your a responsible enough to take care of him, basically do everything that poke's the judges eyes that you have change to be a better person, and that you can take care of an other being. Some of these pokes in the eye can be like having a stable job, helping the community, or helping foster homes. most of the time you can prove these by having reference letters.
